“An apprenticeship scheme and college are totally different. I wanted more qualifications in the travel and tourism industry. A great company to work for and I’ve loved every minute of it”

Hi Nyomi,

Thank you for chatting with us, lets get straight to it…

What is your job role?

I am a Sales and Service advisor. During the busy periods I will work on the phones a lot due to the call volumes we receive. In the quieter periods, I will help with training and completing daily tasks to ensure everything is up to date.”

How long have you worked here for?

Just over 5 years.

Did you join Just Travel Cover straight from school like Layla and Katie or…

No, after school I attended college and completed a travel and tourism course, along with a cabin crew course. I have always loved the travel industry and this is one of the main reasons I applied for this role.”

So why did you decide to leave college and do an apprenticeship instead?

As much as I was loving my course at college, I wanted to earn money. An apprenticeship was the perfect whilst also learning/gaining a qualification out of it.

What was your first day like?

My first day was very nerve-racking, as it is starting any job. However, everyone was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable.”

We really are a friendly bunch, aren’t we… What did you have to do to gain your qualification?

I completed 11 modules explaining how each subject fit into my everyday role. It wasn’t exam based and there was always support around me to help (colleagues in the office or my training providers).

Both Katie and Layla mentioned that they had plenty of opportunities to learn and progress in their role. What progression opportunities have you had?

There are always opportunities to complete further qualifications after you have completed your apprenticeship. However, after my apprenticeship was completed, I was happy with my qualifications and did not want to look into any others. You can also progress within the company; I have recently been promoted from a sales advisor to a sales and service advisor.

Congratulations! Lastly, can you tell us what is the best and worst part of your job and why?

My favourite part – our job can be very interesting, speaking to a range of different customers on a day-to-day basis. In the job role we find out about the different type of trips they are going on, to different medical conditions they need to declare. I also love training and helping other colleagues around the office.

Worst part… It can become quite difficult speaking to customers who have pre-existing medical conditions as it can be very sensitive/upsetting. Our call volumes/workload can be very challenging, especially in the summer, however everyone works as a team and there is always support around to help. The good definitely outweighs the bad!

That’s all the questions for now, thank you for sharing your story with us Nyomi.
