Over 50 Compare

As we get older, the type of Travel Insurance we take becomes more important. Who am I insured with? Do I have enough cover? Will they look after me if the worst happens? All useful questions and reasons to use a trusted Travel Insurance broker.

While travel insurance is essential for everyone, it’s particularly crucial for those over 50 or living with any pre-existing medical conditions. Travel insurance can provide peace of mind by covering emergency medical expenses if you fall ill, get injured or have a flare up abroad. Travel Insurance covers, trip cancellations, and lost or stolen luggage. However, finding affordable Travel Insurance can be a challenge, especially for older travellers. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to find affordable Travel Insurance for travellers Over 50.

Finding the right Travel Insurance policy at the best price can be time consuming and costs can vary depending on a range of factors such as where you’re going, for how long, your medical history, and age. Each insurer will assess each ‘risk’ and consider recent claims history in order to determine a price.

We aim to make that as easy as possible for you by working with several insurers so you can see a range of policies that cover your needs, so that you can choose the right policy for your trip, based on your own circumstances. By working with different insurers we aim to provide a quotation for all leisure travellers regardless of age and medical history, and if none of our insurers can provide a policy, we’ll signpost to someone we think can help.

When comparing policies, check the cover limits and policy documents to make sure you understand what is covered. Look for a policy that provides at least £2m medical and repatriation cover (all of ours are £5m minimum for trips outside the UK) and that covers pre-existing medical conditions. Check the cover limits for cancellation to ensure this is the same or higher than the cost of your holiday (our policies range from £1,000pp to £12,500pp and we can also provide cover up to £50,000pp over the phone). Also check the baggage limit, any exclusions, and the excess you’ll need to pay – at Just Travel Cover we offer policies with zero excess.

Another way to save money on Travel Insurance is to consider purchasing an annual policy instead of a single trip policy. If you travel frequently, an annual policy may be more cost-effective than purchasing individual policies for each trip, although often insurers will not offer an annual policy, depending on age and medical history – if you’re getting a quote online, we recommend selecting “single and annual” if you have a trip booked – then if there’s an annual rate available, we’ll show you it

Finally, be sure to declare any pre-existing medical conditions during the application process. Failing to disclose pre-existing conditions could result in your claim being denied if you need medical treatment for or related to that condition.

Travel Insurance is essential for travellers over 50, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. We have bronze, silver and gold available with most of our insurers – just make sure the policy has enough cover for you and your holiday, and check the excess you need to pay, as often by spending a few pounds more on your policy, you could save on any excess you need to pay in the event of a claim.

Consider the cost of your policy against the average medical Travel insurance claim, which is approximately £1,300 but can easily run into the thousands depending on where you are in the world, or if you need repatriating home. Also consider the cost against what you might lose should you need to cancel your trip – insurance can save you thousands, as long as you have appropriate cover in place.

FAQ’s

How can I find affordable Travel Insurance as a traveller over 50?

The price you pay for Travel Insurance can vary depending on your age, medical history, destination and trip length – there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to Travel Insurance. You should always consider how much it would cost if you needed medical treatment abroad but did not have Travel Insurance – bills can run into the thousands or tens of thousands very easily, especially with extended stays in hospital and getting you home, which can often be accompanied by a medical professional. You should also consider how much you stand to lose if you have to cancel your holiday, for example if a medical emergency means you can not travel. You can’t put a price on peace of mind. Read policy details carefully to ensure that you understand the coverage provided.
